With just three and a half weeks to election day and advance voting underway, the latest snapshot of vote intentions from Mainstreet Research shows the Mayoral race coming down to the wire. The poll was conducted on the 6 and 7, entirely after the withdrawal of Chris Alexander and shows Olivia Chow maintaining an advantage, but now just within the polls margin of error. The lead among decided and leaning voters now sits at 2.9 points with the snapshot carrying a margin of error of +/- 3.1% 19 times out of 20. The snapshot reveals a gender divide with Bradford leading among male voters and Olivia Chow leading among female voters. It also reveals an age gap, with younger voters preferring Olivia Chow, and older voters indicating they prefer Bradford.
Mainstreet Research also asked Toronto voters about their concerns with traffic and congestion and the reliability of TTC service for this snapshot.
“ With the exit of Chris Alexander, this race now is truly coming down to the wire” said Quito Maggi, President & CEO of Mainstreet Research. “While the relative turnout of voters will play a factor in the eventual outcome, it appears the Bradford campaign may have some momentum” he added. “Chow continues to lead in Downtown, Scarborough & North York, while Bradford leads in Etobicoke. The exit of Alexander has closed this gap, especially among East Asian voters who broke to Bradford” he continued. “With a short runway remaining, the chances of a Chow re-election are less and less certain” he concluded.
