The latest snapshot of Quebec from Mainstreet Research shows a return of the CAQ with a leadership bump coming after selecting Christine Frechette as Premier.
Almost a quarter of Quebecers told us they would vote for the CAQ (24.6%). Around 2 in 10 said they would vote PQ (22.6%) and almost 3 in 10 for the Quebec Liberals (30.5%).
When asked for their views on Fréchette, Plamondon and Milliard, voters gave Christine Fréchette a net approval rating of +24.1%, Paul St Pierre Plamondon a net disapproval rating of -6.3%, and Charles Milliard a net approval rating of +2.8%. More than two-thirds are against the possibility of Quebec sovereignty, whilst 23.1% are in favour and 11.4% have no opinion.
This represents a very real revival for the CAQ" said Mainstreet Quebec VP Steve Pinkus. "More importantly, the efficiency of the CAQ vote suggests the possibility they could form a minority Government if an election were held today" he added. "With these numbers pointing to such a large percentage opposed to the sovereignty option of the PQ, there is a potential upside for the CAQ among Quebecers who oppose separation, which could be a major problem for the PQ in the election this Fall" he concluded.
