The latest snapshot from Mainstreet Research shows an interesting race emerging between Mayor Olivia Chow and past Mayor John Tory. Among decided and leaning voters, Chow leads Tory by 10 points (43% to 33%) with Councillor Brad Bradford at just under 2 in 10 (17%) and Anthoney Furey under 1 in 10 (7%).

When asked whether they prefer the City of Toronto direction under current Mayor Chow or under past Mayor Tory however, a majority of Toronto voters indicate they preferred the direction of the City under Tory (54%). This includes overwhelming majorities among those who say they would vote for Bradford (81.5%) and Anthony Furey (80.2%) and among those who say they are undecided (58.3%).

“Although currently Olivia Chow does enjoy a lead among decided voters, this could change if John Tory in fact joins the race and creates a two horse race between himself and Chow” said Quito Maggi, President & CEO of Mainstreet Research. “With Bradford and Furey supporters overwhelmingly in favour of the direction under Tory, it would be hard for Chow to maintain the advantage” he added. “If Bradford, Furey and other potential contenders can hold over 20 percent of the voters, the path for John Tory to stage a comeback victory narrows significantly” he concluded.
