A new snapshot of the City of Toronto from Mainstreet Research now shows Brad Bradford leading over incumbent Olivia Chow. With a week to election day, Bradford now has the support of over almost 5 in 10 voters (48.9%) compared to Chow who receives a nearly equal share (47.5%). 13% of voters remain undecided with just days until election day.
The snapshot asked Toronto voters how they might vote, if they voted in advance, and how certain they are to vote on Monday. It also asked voters to rate the importance of Affordability, Crime and Safety and traffic and transit in making their vote decision. Affordability and cost of living remains the highest ranked issue for Toronto voters (38.3%) followed by Getting around Toronto, including traffic congestion and public transit (22.4%) and Crime & Safety (16.4%).
“This represents a seismic shift in the Mayoral election in Toronto” said Quito Maggi, President & CEO of Mainstreet Research. “While we have seen this race tighten significantly throughout October, Chow had previously led wire to wire and led in 3 of four regions of Toronto” he added. “Brad Bradford now leads in Etocicoke and North York and Chow leads in Scarborough & Downtown, this race will come down to turnout and get out the vote efforts from these campaigns” he continued. “Bradford continues to lead among older voters who are more likely to vote, so he maintains that advantage” he added. “This race is truly too close to call, but Bradford now has the upper hand” he concluded.
