The latest snapshot of British Columbia from Mainstreet Research shows a clear advantage for Mark Carney and the Federal Liberals over Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives. Carney’s Liberals lead by 12 point in BC, 46.7% to 34.1%.
The Provincial picture is less clear. Under current interim leader Trevor Halford, the BC Conservative trail the David Eby led NDP by almost 2 points. 38.6% to 36.8%. When testing potential BC Conservative leadership candidates, each of Elliott, Black, Findlay and Milobar lead the NDP but only Peter Milobar would result in a clear majority BC Conservative majority.
“The Carney effect continues to change the landscape across Canada, similar to our recent Alberta polling, the combination of Carney at home and Donald Trump in the Oval Office, is paying dividends for the Liberals.” said Quito Maggi, President & CEO of Mainstreet Research. “With the BC Conservatives in the midst of a leadership race, the Provincial ballot is less clear” he added. “Under current interim leader, the NDP continues to lead but with possible contenders, David Eby loses the advantage” he continued. “With BC Conservative Peter Milobar at the helm, the BC Conservatives would secure a clear majority, based largely on gains made in the lower Mainland” he concluded.
