The latest Snapshot from Mainstreet Research shows continued support for Mark Carney agenda, including pipeline expansion.
Mainstreet Research’s latest National opinion survey points to continued resilience for the Mark Carney led Liberals across most regions including substantial leads in Atlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia.
The approvals for Mark Carney himself continue to be a majority of Canadians, with 57.2% of Canadians saying they either strongly or somewhat approve of the job Carney is doing as Prime Minister. Those who strongly disapprove is up to 28.6% which is the highest measured by Mainstreet Research since Carney became Prime Minister.
When asked if they would support pipeline expansion of either LNG or oil to get Canadian resources to markets other than the US, 7 in 10 Canadians said they approve. (70.3%) with a near majority strongly approving. (49.2%). This includes clear majority approvals in every region of Canada, highest in Alberta (80%) and lowest in the Prairies (61%).
“What is shocking to me is that most Canadians now support pipeline expansion to get Canadian oil and gas to markets other than the US” said Quito Maggi, President & CEO of Mainstreet Research. “This includes Quebec and Atlantic Canada where pipeline expansion has historically been viewed with sketicism” he added. “With most Canadians aligned with the Carney economic and foreign policy agenda, it’s no surprise he continues to lead in popular vote and among the highest approvals of any Canadian political leader” he concluded.
