Horgan NDP With A Five Point Lead Over Liberals

19 March 2018 (Ottawa, ON) – Premier John Horgan and the BC NDP maintain a lead of slightly more than five points over the BC Liberals with new leader Andrew Wilkinson at the helm, a new Mainstreet Research poll finds.

The poll surveyed 1511 British Columbians aged 18 and over between March 5th and March 6th. The poll has a margin of error of +/- 2.52% and is accurate 19 times out of 20.

“The election of Andrew Wilkinson has had no effect on the BC Liberals popularity as of yet”, said Quito Maggi, President and CEO of Mainstreet Research. “Premier Horgan maintains roughly the same lead over the Liberals as he had in January.”

The Horgan NDP currently have 36% support among decided and leaning voters, while the BC Liberals are at 30.7%. The Greens under Andrew Weaver however have just under 22%, while the BC Conservatives currently enjoy nearly 9% support.

“Premier Horgan’s popularity has not been affected by his current battle with Alberta Premier Rachel Notley over pipelines,” continued Maggi. “The NDP have significant leads in every region in British Columbia and currently are in a good position over both the Liberals and the Greens.”

The NDP have a 5% lead over the Liberals in Greater Vancouver, and currently enjoy nearly a two point lead over the Greens on Vancouver Island. In the interior of BC, the NDP hold a narrow 1.6% lead over the Liberals, with the Greens at 21%.
